Which-Frequency

IN A REAL DISASTER, WHICH 2 METER FREQUENCY WILL WE USE?

If the MESAC repeater frequency is operational, it will be in use by others with
higher priority. In a worst case scenario where there are no communications but
radio, no repeaters may be available to us.

For this reason we are planning to use a simplex frequency (no tones or offsets).
Program this into your radio: 146.565.

If you want to communicate with the rest of us in an emergency, start with this
channel. If it is busy, then “go up 15”, i.e. 146.580

The alternate frequency is: 446.500

Remember to listen first and always ask if the frequency is in use. If it is, do not
interrupt unless you have emergency traffic. Wait until there is a break in traffic or
continue to “go up 15” if needed

Without a repeater, your 5 watt hand held radio should reach 4.5 to 5 mi. Within
that range you should be able to connect with a ham having a stronger signal if a
relay is needed.
